how can a person who barely makes their bills ( and sometimes cant make that) provide good holidays for their family. My neighbor and I are working hard to figure out how to handle the holidays. We are both very much in need of help for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If anyone is willing to help it would be greatly appreciated. On top of all this my car (that I still owe 4 years on) has died and no one has been able to figure out what exactly is wriong. I have gone 4 weeks with no car, and had to pay for parts to try and fix it. mean time other bills have suffered and I dont know what to do. Any thoughts. All advice appreciated.
I was a single disabled mom, and hubby was a single dad, so I feel your pain. Even being on disability I didn't qualify for assistance and my husband having two children and working 40 hours a week, paying daycare etc never qualified for assistance. You are so right things do need to change. We were fortunate to find eachother and even still, we now have 4 children between us, he works full time and I am on disability, but money is always tight. We dont qualify for any assitance. We make our bills, most of the time, however there is nothing extra. All I want is to make christmas and thanksgiving wonderful for our family and actually for a family close to me that is a single mom with 2 children and one on the way. She has been effected by all the layoffs and as a pregnant woman has not been able to find a job. We dont look for welfare, we make it on our own, but holidays are for kids, and how do u do for children, when u can barely make your bills? I have taught my kids that its not about gifts, its about being together and we bake and do fun things together but, even though 3 of my kids are older its still hard to not beable to say hey look there are gifts for you under the tree. And to top it all off my car died, a month ago, I still owe 4 years on it and no one can figure out whats wrong with it, and we dont have the money to throw parts at it. So we are paying a monthly car payment, and insurance on a useless heap of metal. It seems like when it rains it pours. Sorry to go on an on, but seems to be the place to be able to do so. Best of luck with being a single dad, and just know, your kids know u are there for them and as they get older, they will appreciate all you have given up to be a great dad.
